Cheese and meat boards are an easy elevation to date night in or any hostess' menu, whether it's the appetizer, main dish, or dessert. And just because they're simple to put together doesn't mean they have to be boring. Making meat roses are more straightforward than one might think, and it'll add a wow factor that'll impress your guests. That's why I'm sharing a quick how-to on creating these edible roses for your next charcuterie.

Tips & Best Practices

  • Thicker slices such as salami and soppressata hold the shape better than sliced meat such as prosciutto.
  • For thinner lunch meat, such as turkey, order it at a thicker slice level, similar to salami.
  • The size of the rose depends on the top width of the glass you are using. I used a stemless wine glass for the roses in the images above.

Making Meat Roses

  1. One by one, add each slice by folding it over the edge of the glass. Be sure to overlap the meat as you go all the way around and gently press to mold it to the glass.
  2. Keep layering the slices until the inside of the glass is no longer visible.
  3. Once complete, flip the glass over onto the board surface and gently lift the glass out.

Meat roses are ideal for guests to graze because you can remove the top layer without disturbing or touching the others. I hope you found this helpful for your next event. Be sure to share your choice of meat for creating flowers to decorate your board.

Until next time,
Katherine
