Gifting Food

food presents
Food gifts are a favorite of mine for long-distance relatives, and those times I find myself not knowing what to get someone. They apply to every occasion, can easily be made personal to the giftee, and come gifting ready in the mail, so you don't have to worry about them missing out on the excitement of opening their gift. In this post, I'm sharing the best food gifts I've come across over the years, and tips on making them unique to the individual.
food gift delivery

What is the Best Mail Order Food?

I've listed below several suggestions that you can mail. I've also included a few things to consider for sending food gifts directly to the receiver.
  • Make sure they're home. For anyone out of town during the occasion, try to send it earlier with a note that you still want to celebrate the occasion. "I know you'll be off on an adventure on the day, but I still wanted to send you a birthday treat. Happy early birthday!"
  • Be conscious of the time of year and weather for their location. Chocolates might not be the best option to send to someone in the middle of enduring a Texas summer. Check the company's listing. They'll note if it comes iced and needs to be refrigerated immediately.

What to Gift a Person Who Loves Food?

Do they love eating food, or do they love cooking food? If it's enjoying good eats, a pre-made gourmet food gift is the way to go. For the home chef, you could expand your search to include gourmet cooking ingredients such as finishing salts, olive oils, spices, and jams.

When deciding what fits best with their foodie palate, think about the following:
  • Do they have any allergies to avoid?
  • Can you give their most loved food a unique interpretation? For example, pistachio ice cream flavored fudge.
  • Is there a way to gift an assortment for a tasting instead of the same flavor of everything? Opt for a popcorn tin with a variety to taste instead of a large one of the same flavor.
