One of my and Josh's favorite beach vacations is going to Sarasota, Florida. When visiting, we typically stick to our favorite spots on one of the keys, but for this trip decided to mix things up a bit and explore the city with an outdoor scavenger hunt in downtown Sarasota after our morning run. We spent most of our time in historic downtown Sarasota where we enjoyed the artsy vibe of 1st and main street with shops and restaurants wall to wall. This strip of small shops captures the essence of quintessential America's main street and felt as if it could easily be any small town. Since this is an outside activity, it's beneficial to one's comfort to consider the time of day and year when planning. We started in the morning, and the spring weather prevented the sun from being unbearable with heat. The streets were clean and well kept despite construction on almost every corner, which created a pleasant stroll in the city. The Scavenger Hunt AppBeing an affiliate, Let's Roam provided me with a gift certificate on their mobile app for this scavenger hunt adventure with no requirement in return. This review was done on my own accord and reflects my personal opinions from my experience. To begin this self-guided tour, I logged in to the Let's Roam app and selected Sarasota Scavenger Hunt: Sarasota Spectacles. I did the date night edition. You can invite guests to use their phones for a friendly race competition or use one phone. Since it was just the two of us with a purpose of connection, we used one phone. Navigating the hunt was easy by utilizing the app's map and arrival alert ability. Fun history tidbits accompanied each location question. You can set the pace, so if you see a shop or need a coffee in between, it's simple to take a quick pause and get right back to it. As the hunt went on, we did find ourselves wondering how much further we were going to be walking. Unfortunately, we didn't see the app feature a progress bar. In hindsight, the number of stops was just about perfect, as of right when we were ready to be done, it was just finishing up. I want to note that when I took photos in the app, it didn't appear to save them to my phone, and I had to download them later. For immediate access and for printing use, I would recommend snapping a second photo onsite through your camera. Overall, this experience made for a fun and inexpensive date. If you're looking for things to do in Sarasota, this downtown scavenger hunt is a great way to explore the city before hitting the beach for a day in the sun.
