DIY Gifts: Bath Salts

8/11/2019

I’m always looking for gift finds that will be well received with a personal touch and today we’re going to explore the gift of homemade bath salts.
You may be thinking why bath salts. Well, what’s more relaxing than coming home from a long day at work, grabbing a glass of wine, a good book, and taking a nice soak? And for my guys out there, nothing melts a girl’s heart more than knowing someone put the time into making something special for her. Bath salts are easy to make and a well loved gift. You probably have half the ingredients in your kitchen which is always nice. Let’s get to it!

What You'll Need

You’ll need 4-5 simple ingredients:
1/6 cup Epsom Salts
1/3 cup Sea Salt
2 TSP Baking Soda
1 - 2 TSP Essential Oils

Tip: You can always use more than one scent. Use 1 teaspoon of the scent you want to be the strongest and add about ½ teaspoon of the secondary scent.
Step 1: Simply combine your dry ingredients.
Step 2: Add in your essential oils.
Note: For the batch in the video I used one scent: lavender. Not to worry...If you don’t have essential oils on hand, you can simply go with vanilla extract.
Step 3: Stir until well combined.
Tip: Now, I chose lavender because it’s calming and winds you down from the day. Vanilla pairs well with lavender, but note it will make the salts brown as that’s it’s natural color. Use a colorant to dye the salts. A honey scented oil would also pair well with lavender. Who else is now wanting hot tea?

Package It With...

Now that you have a great gift you need to package it. Apothecary jars have a sophisticated homemade feel and look great with a simple label.

Tip: You can simply spoon your mixture into the jar, or, if you’re feeling a bit more daring - a parchment funnel works well...but if you’re like me you might want to keep a broom handy.

Tip: This recipe makes enough to fill an 8 ounce jar, there may even be some leftover for you to use for yourself  ;).

Pair It With...

Now what’s great about this, is it's the perfect small gift, or you can elevate it based on your gifting needs by pairing it with other spa bath essentials, such as a candle, bath bomb, and/or a loofah.
Thanks for giving this a try and be sure to comment below with how this worked out for you. For more gifting inspiration, visit my Pinterest boards. Happy Gifting!
