Whether you schedule date nights consistently or they're impromptu, it's good and healthy to have them. They help you unwind, communicate, and reconnect together. As it's not always easy to go out, we've gathered recommendations for twenty at-home date ideas and listed them below.
As you scroll through these options, you'll notice contests and food are the main sources of inspiration. Making everyday tasks like cooking dinner a contest creates excitement, is easy to implement, and can be budget-friendly, plus a little competition never hurt anyone.
1. Latte Contest
Who doesn't love a good cup of coffee, especially flavored ones? Bring the coffee shop to your home, and see who can make the best tasting and most creative latte with this fun challenge.
2. Pizza Making Contest
Pizzas are simple to make and great when homemade. Making the dough from scratch is a lot easier than it sounds; here is a link to the recipe I like to use. It also has several topping ideas to help get you started on that award-winning pizza.
3. Create a Signature Cocktail
It's diverting to think about what represents the two of you and how you can combine the ingredients to make a delicious drink. Grab your favorite mixers and get to experimenting.
Our signature cocktail ended up being a white peach sangria.
4. Wine Tasting
Take advantage of your wine stock and have a mini wine tasting at home. Make up a charcuterie board and grab a variety of wine choices. Take turns guessing the flavors in each wine, and then read the labels to see if you guessed them right.
5. Have a Picnic
Whether it's inside or outdoors will be dependent on the weather, but either way, it'll be nice to mix up the evening with a picnic.
6. Movie Marathon
We all have our favorite series, and sometimes the perfect night is staying in and watching a good movie. Some of our favorites are Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and Star Wars. Haul out the junk food and candy, Gilmore Girls-style, and cozy up on the couch together.
7. Around the World Dinner
Think about your favorite destinations you've traveled to and prepare a dish from there.
8. Backyard Obstacle Course
It's an entertaining way to get some exercise and something to do together. Find items to create an obstacle course and time each other to see who can do it the fastest.
9. Board Game Night
Break out your favorite board games or puzzles and spend the evening disconnected from technology.
10. Plan Your Next Trip
Start planning your next destination and excursions over travel books and some wine.
11. Start a Book Club
We all have a wish list of books to read when we finally get the time, pick one that interests you both, and have conversations after each chapter.
12. Video Game Night
Learn how to play each other's favorite video games.
13. Take a Stroll
Sometimes it's nice to get out of the house and move those legs. Take a walk around your neighborhood and enjoy being outside. To make it more romantic, time it so that you can watch the sunset together.
14. Food Network's Secret Ingredient Challenge (derived from Iron Chef)
Choose a secret ingredient to cook with and see what you both come up with to cook.
15. Home Spa Night
Have some fun and relieve some stress by trading foot scrubs, massages, and applying face masks together.
16. Dinner and the Newlywed Game
Grab dinner curbside from your favorite restaurant or have it delivered, and sit down at the table together. Take turns asking questions and guessing each other's answers.
17. The Pantry Challenge
Pick three items that aren't traditionally cooked together and make a meal.
18. Have Brunch
Make your favorite brunch items, bloody mary's, mimosas, and lots and lots of bacon!
19. Milkshake or Smoothie Contest
Kick it up a notch by choosing a unique flavor such as a toasted marshmallow milkshake or honeydew-almond smoothie.
20. Experiment with Fitness Classes
Most people have a class they've been wanting to try but haven't gotten around to it. Look up that class on YouTube and give it a try together.
